Vimpex has now curated a comprehensive white paper encapsulating all the insights and discussions from the conference. The white paper, probably the most comprehensive document on this critical issue, is available for download on the Vimpex website. It offers valuable information for improving safety and health protocols within fire services.
Delegates at the conference had the opportunity to hear from a diverse range of speakers, each offering unique insights into the latest scientific thinking on this critical safety topic for firefighters. Brett Egan-Briers, Vice Chair of the NFCC PPE and Clothing Committee, spoke about the timeline of the legislative and regulatory frameworks around the issue. Ricardo La Torre from the Fire Brigade’s Union outlined the work the union has been doing to improve data, understanding, and research around the risks to firefighters across the UK. Adam Stone from the London Fire Brigade shared best practice advice from work that the service has carried out in the field.
The second half of the conference was devoted to industry experts outlining the different scientific advances in this sphere. Ingemar Lejon from Lejon Kemi is a world-leading expert in cleaning and decontamination of firefighter clothing, PPE and equipment. He outlined the lessons the UK industry could learn from the advanced techniques used in the Nordic region. Anna Lorentzon supplemented this information from Electrolux Professional, who talked about the latest advances in washing equipment and how they work, and Gorazd Stebe from CODEX Technologies, who described the latest advances in H2O and CO2 cleaning for effective decontamination. Finally, Hazam Matar, Associate Professor at Hertfordshire University, joined Joachim Karthäuser from SiOx Machines, who, along with the rest of the day’s speakers, concluded with a well-informed and valuable expert panel debate.
